week two | dates
You worked up your courage and asked someone out on a date! Good job!
Now you have to hope the producers are kind re: where they send you.

Trust is certainly too strong a word. But I do have faith in our alliance.
[Ritsuka is absolutely a busy body but also knows when it keep her distance. He can respect that.]

Glad you don't regret it! Same here.

Before you leave you should still tell me who your favorite is. Without the cameras and everything. I have to know who the most tolerable person in history is.

... Does this include mythology or just history?
[ She has to ask. ]

[ She adores so many of them.... ]

[A beat.]
Thank you for indulging my request.

I'd say... Curiosity. Which isn't really a skill. But if you're not curious about how and why things happen then you're going to miss things or will only be able to look at the case a certain way.
[Many of his famous cases were set up and made for him to solve. Easy to do when you're the one committing the crimes. But the general idea of being a detective still needed to be known. And he has solved smaller things during his time on the force. He's certainly a fraud but his skill set and knowledge of this is still legitimate.]
For example... A jewelry store was broken into. Some jewelry is taken as is any cash available. Let's say in this particular instance only the rings were taken. I think many people would make the assumption that this would be a cash grab. They're going to hawk the rings for more cash. But... why only the rings? Maybe that's all they had room for. When you get into bracelets and necklaces that becomes clunkier. Rings are smaller and easier to pocket, yes.
But I think just the rings being taken is interesting. Easy to overlook it all as one thing but that one clue really would make me think in a different direction And perhaps narrow down potential leads or the kind of person we might be looking for. Depending on the rings stolen it could be for the diamonds or gemstones. Or someone down on their luck trying to impress or court someone. A little money and a fancy ring to turn the head of someone. You need to look at it from every possible angle and remain genuinely curious why these things happened the way they did.

[ It's a bit like sitting there watching Holmes work, even though he didn't bother to explain his process until well after the fact. And certainly not as polished, but she's nodding. ]
So it really is about thinking about every little detail and not just assume that you know the whole story until you've really turned it over and over again in your head! That's a good point!

Why would someone only take the rings? It's such a strange thing to only steal that. Continuing to be curious and explore the rational behind another person. Sometimes things are senseless but often they aren't... Lots of people struggle through this world and do terrible things because they feel they have no choice. That's no excuse, of course, but something to keep in mind.
And desperation is a remarkably easy path to track in solving a case.

[ A little too well, honestly. ]
Well, I'd hear a lot about it from the Servants, too--the spirits I mentioned. About things that happened in their lives that were brought about by desperation or things they really only processed long after their deaths.

People who make such a mark on history... I imagine there are some that don't care and would have done the same regardless but there must be a fair few that, if given the chance, might have done something differently.
Is that what your job provides? A chance to do something differently or must the restoration of history play out exactly as it has in the past?

But they do get other opportunities to do different things than they did in life, for sure.

That's a shame but I think you're right. It sounds fantastical but some things are better left as such. Imagine meeting your hero and they kind of suck. [He chuckles a little.] Which may be something you've experienced even.

Minamoto no Yoshitsune?
Huh... He's there too. I guess one should ask who isn't there at this rate. But before that... What is he like? Aside from cool, of course.

[ Also a woman-- ]

Well, it may be wishful thinking but I would like to walk a mile in your shoes. We could switch. You can go to cram school and I'll deal with all these troublesome people from history for a day.
no subject
Sure! It feels more like babysitting than anything, a lot of the time, so if you're up for that, I'll take a study day!
