Making assumptions without looking at it from every side is a pretty big mistake to make. I'm not saying there's always a solution or it isn't the simplest one but people are complex and have complex reasons for doing what they're doing.

Why would someone only take the rings? It's such a strange thing to only steal that. Continuing to be curious and explore the rational behind another person. Sometimes things are senseless but often they aren't... Lots of people struggle through this world and do terrible things because they feel they have no choice. That's no excuse, of course, but something to keep in mind.

And desperation is a remarkably easy path to track in solving a case.

Well, I'd hear a lot about it from the Servants, too--the spirits I mentioned. About things that happened in their lives that were brought about by desperation or things they really only processed long after their deaths.

Sometimes death is the only time we have to reflect on how things shook out for us. And the how and why of what we've done...

People who make such a mark on history... I imagine there are some that don't care and would have done the same regardless but there must be a fair few that, if given the chance, might have done something differently.

Is that what your job provides? A chance to do something differently or must the restoration of history play out exactly as it has in the past?

Well, initially the problem was that history did get tampered with and I had to restore the timeline because the butterfly effect's no joke. So it's for the best that I leave it as it was.

But they do get other opportunities to do different things than they did in life, for sure.

That's quite the opportunity before them... I wonder, in some cases, if it is for better or worse... There's many that would change the hand dealt in hopes for a better outcome.

It's too bad I probably can't call them here without it being an emergency. I think you'd really enjoy meeting some of them.

That's a shame but I think you're right. It sounds fantastical but some things are better left as such. Imagine meeting your hero and they kind of suck. [He chuckles a little.] Which may be something you've experienced even.

Huh... He's there too. I guess one should ask who isn't there at this rate. But before that... What is he like? Aside from cool, of course.

Well, it may be wishful thinking but I would like to walk a mile in your shoes. We could switch. You can go to cram school and I'll deal with all these troublesome people from history for a day.

Sure! It feels more like babysitting than anything, a lot of the time, so if you're up for that, I'll take a study day!
