[For all of Akechi's many many many flaws he does like animals. Exhibit A. And the aquarium was a place he frequented back home.

He mostly liked going her alone so... shame about the company that he was forced to come out here with. This feels a little like hell on earth. It could be worse but not by very much. With a deep and heavy sigh he simply decides that he will just focus exceptionally hard on the fish and resist the all consuming urge to push her into the shallow stingray pool.

They'll have to see how it goes.]

[ wow... look at the cute stingrays... it's too bad akechi is the last person who can appreciate her cute look so this is for you, aya, and you only. anna doesn't mind his cold shoulder very much -- it's apparently not a situation she doesn't want to be in unlike him? -- but she is gonna be their conversation starter. ]

[Thank you. She looks adorable. Akechi does not think so but he hasn't spared her so much as a glance. The fight has really been taken out of him when it comes to going on dates and he's been forcibly dragged out of the house. That doesn't mean he has to actually be social or interact with her.

If it's good content for television or not is none of his concern at all.

He leans down to read a sign about some fish that are in this current tank and then a lean in to see if he can find those fish.

If he was back home with his phone he'd take pictures. Food blogging for the public. Animal pictures for himself. Taking pictures is a little tricky with the glass of the tanks so that never goes too well but when you see an eel opens it's mouth impossibly wide you want to take a picture of it.

She is talking to him though... About the gift store. If she has some desire to carry crap with her all day then she can go by herself.]

Do you have a favorite sea critter? I think otters are super cute, but I can't lie, I wanna ride on a dolphin.

[He suspects that he could say nothing this entire time and she'd just keep chattering to herself, a one way conversation that he doesn't need to participate in.

Will's future looks bleak if this is what he's content to saddle himself with.

He only answers because if he's talking she can't be, which offers a small and blessed reprieve, he does answer.]

Have you seen those livestreams of the people spearing them? They can get so many on a single stick... I don't remember why they're doing it though, since it doesn't look that tasty.

[That was his mistake. Talking to her. But he is a wealth of knowledge and sometimes he can't help sharing.]

Lionfish are invasive species and extremely poisonous so spear fishers will go out and kill as many as they can. The problem is that lionfish can dive deeper than spear fishers so you'll never get them all.

This is its own problem, of course. You have a lot of inexperienced spear fishers who end up hurting the reef trying to kill the lionfish and then leaving them to just rot in the ocean. Lionfish, being invasive, don't really have any predators so it's only continuing to destroy the ecosystem by not removing them properly. But those that know what they're doing do eat the lionfish.

These fish, if not culled, will eventually spread through the entire Atlantic and are at risk of starving other fish out and causing them to become extinct.

[He moves to the next tank at this leisure, reading every sign and seeing if he can spot all the claimed fish within. It's a slow trudge through the aquarium while he drops his knowledge about fish.]

Oh... Huh. Too bad they look so cool.

[ just not tasty. she'll follow after, staring at a flounder on the two inch sandy floor. and then moving on to peer at some seahorses in a smaller tank. oh, my god, they're curled on the same piece of seaweed... ]

I've lived near the ocean my whole life, but my family's big on land meat. So we've had those sushi platters but not... like, anything too off the menu. Are you a fatty tuna kinda guy?

I'm a whatever konbini is available at the corner store kind of guy.

[If he was ever eating sushi, and good sushi, it was because he coaxed Sae-san into it. Or she took him out for his birthday or something. There was certainly fatty tuna there but he was happy to eat anything that was provided.]

No, no way. Not today! Today, we're gonna eat our fill of high priced sushi! Pick you favorite fish and we'll drop by after this. I mean, we're practicallty being paid to enjoy ourselves, so shouldn't we go all out?

[He wrinkles his nose at this.]

What? It's not like I've never had high price sushi. It was just easier and cheaper to get whatever was at the corner store. My life was busy.

And I'm saying we should drain the bank!

[ come on. you know you want to. ]

[Everyone here is an enemy as far as he's concerned. But there is no greater enemy than television producers. This has always been true. So Akechi sighs and rolls his eyes but... he also gives nod.]

I wanna see the otters. They're cute, gentle creatures just like me. Let's route that way.

[Otters are cute but he can't agree with that statement. Anna is one of the least cute people he's come across. He follows, reluctantly, anyway. He does want sushi. On the production team, of course. So he'll only be slightly more agreeable as they go through the aquarium. He does stop on occasion to look at the occasional fish or other fascinating looking creature.]

[ that's fine, anna's stopping more than she thought she would to look at everything... especially the jellyfish. they're so pretty, all lit up in their tubes. this would be romantic if it wasn't akechi. ]

So what made you wanna become a detective?

[He clicks his tongue at the question and debates answering. And how honest the answer he wants to give is.

He gives in if only because he is concerned she'll just keep rattling off questions or, worse, start making assumptions.]

[Which is not completely truthful but not necessarily a lie. In the end... everything he did was to get vengeance for his mother.]

[ understatement of the century. she straightens up and moves to the next tank, a passing glance at the bioluminescent wall of jellies before continuing. ]

I'm gonna ask you some questions to help you find your perfect match. That's pretty much the reason I wanted to go out with you. Okay?

[How much trouble can he get in if he was to push her into the shark tank? Obviously a lot but... it might be worth it.]

It goes without saying that there is no such thing as a "perfect" match. But ask whatever you want.

[He'll decide as they come if they're worth answering.]

And you'll answer anything you don't think is stupid. Yeah, yeah, I've heard it before... and it's just the game lingo, so whatever. Your "good enough" match.

You're a pretty independent person, but if someone wanted you to lean on them, could you do it? Or would you prefer they just do... quiet actions to show they're there for you? Like making your favorite food on a bad day type of thing.

[ direct vs indirect care, maybe. it is. ]

[Could he lean on another person? He had to at the end of the year. And he hated it. But if you take out the life and death aspect that his life had been... Could he lean on someone and rely on them for mundane things?]

No. [It feels weak to do so. He doesn't need help. And he doesn't need to rely on anyone.] If they wanted to make coffee in the morning or have dinner at the end of the day then fine. I suppose that's acceptable.
