week two | dates
You worked up your courage and asked someone out on a date! Good job!
Now you have to hope the producers are kind re: where they send you.

Well, karaoke is at least a familiar thing to Josuke. Not that he goes that often; his friends are more of the loiter outside different parts of town and kick rocks type. Josuke opts for an iced coffee for his non-alcoholic beverage... with cream and sugar!! At least they get the room to themselves and there's not gonna be anyone watching them sing. ]
I'm not much of a singer, but... [ He fiddles with the controls and the microphones, seeming to know what he's doing. Sort of. ] I do love music. Prince is my favorite artist by a long shot — he's so stylish and cool.
[ his style is heavily inspired by him... ]
You know him, right? Don't tell me you don't.
[ He hopes he's not about to find out Mark is from like, a super weird fantasy land like some of these other folks. How are they going to sing together!! ]

Truthfully, Mark isn't sure he's ever done karaoke before. His hobbies more or less range from the nerdy to standard jock shit, which karaoke does not exactly fall in between. He knows what it is, just the whole setup is actually kind of new to him.
Thank god they have the room to themselves, though. He's opted for just a Sprite... for now, maybe he'll get wild and mix it with some other soft drink later.
Mark is flipping through the list of songs too fast to really be retaining any of them, but he looks up when Josuke speaks. Pauses. Stares. ]
That's who you remind me of!
[ He's Leo pointing in spirit. In reality he's grinning, wide and bright. ]
Oh, yeah. You— you totally capture him. Wow.
[ And now he's flipping to see what Prince songs this place has. Josuke!! Josuke you gotta come pick one. ]

Haha... you really think so?
[ He's touched! But with the equipment all set up, he leans over Mark to get a look at the book himself, seeing him flipping to the Prince songs. ]
If we're gonna do one, let's do 1999, I love that one.

Yeah, man! I mean, [ Mark mimes Josuke's pompadour on his own head, ] the hair, the colours, the style... I totally see it now.
[ And he leans over to let him get a proper look at the songs, beaming at him when he chooses. ]
Oh, yeah, definitely. That one's fun. [ He enters the number for it, but just before the song starts up... ] Don't hold it against me if I mess up, okay? I mean... I'm not much of a singer either, but I don't even have your style.

Dude, it's supposed for be for fun! Just relax.
[ Who cares if they're good at singing or look stylish? Josuke, at the very least, seems content to feel the beat and act like he's just singing and dancing in his room back home. Apparently, he doesn't really care much about looking silly when doing something like this. He cares about looking cool visually... but he's never been one of those guys that act tough, cool, and unaffected by the world around them. He's not too cool to have fun at karaoke while listening to one of his favorite songs. He doesn't even need the lyrics on the screen!! ]
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray!

Seeing how easily into it Josuke gets causes him to relax, though. Like, he's still a bit of a bundle of nerves, but they settle as he starts singing. Mark looks at him, gaze soft, almost admiring. Josuke is so free and in the moment... he doesn't even need to look at the screen...
... Mark does, though, and he's still a bit more rigid than he'd like, but damnit he's going to try — even if he does start out quieter than Josuke. He needs to build his confidence up...! ]
But when I woke up this morning, could have sworn it was judgment day!

Sky was all purple, there were people running everywhere...
[ He gives Mark a Knowing look, trying to get him to sing the next line along with him. He'll even do the lower harmony (badly, because it's not like he's a real singer); he truly knows this song inside and out. ]
Tryin' to run from the destruction, you know I didn't even care.
[ NOW GO OFF ON THE CHORUS MARK!!!! ]

Not that he has the presence of mind to try for any harmonizing, just using his normal singing voice — but at least, to his credit, getting it in time with Josuke.
... And then the chorus, which, ohgodohgodohgod— ]
'Cause they say — [ starting off a little shaky, but finding himself falling into the natural rhythm — ] 2000, zero-zero, party over, oops, out of time,
[ Beaming at Josuke when he thinks he's got it! ] So tonight, I'm gonna party like it's 1999!
