week four | mingle
Welcome to your fourth and final week, teens!
There aren’t many changes around the house today: it seems everyone is dialed in on what needs to be done and the upcoming week. Everything that was on the fritz last week is now back to normal, aside from the Dress Up Your Blorbo curse. You can still do that at will.
Anyway, it's fine that all seems quiet.
There’s plenty going on anyway this week.

thankfully not about her lovelife. ]
Are these your gods and goddesses? They don't look very impressive.

[ Simply. ]
But Da Vinci would still call herself beautiful, even if she wasn't divine. She would have liked you.
no subject
I probably would've liked her too then. Sounds like my kinda friend.
[ ...
like the painter...? nah. anna'll point at the dolls. ]
Which one's your favorite?
no subject
I don't have one. [ Well, she probably expected that. ]
I think these are just the ones I've dreamed of the most.

[ girl. cmon. please. anna peers at the dolls again, deciding which one she likes best herself, and goes to pick up the wolf. puppy... ]
This one's cute.
lb1 spoilers
[ Welp. Too late.
You feel... a lot of things, in the moment. Shock. Denial. Horror. Hollow dread. You're supposed to keep fighting, against a group of reluctant wolf people you were just trying to support. But you've been told that in order to save your world and restore humanity, you need to get rid of theirs. All these lives will be lost, if you make that choice.
And you think, as they load their guns, level their crossbows at you, maybe it's fine. Maybe you should just let them kill you. What right do you have to take away everything from them, themselves included?
There's discharge. Impact. Blood.
But not from you. Instead, one of the Yaga stands in front of you, takes it in your stead. And before you can do more than gasp in confusion and alarm, he spins and grabs you by the front of your shirt, lifting you straight up into the air.
You stare down at him, speechless.
"I'll never forgive you, for as long as I live."
His voice is a low growl. It's one you've gotten used to, while you've been here, but his voice is thick with pain now.
"You know why?"
Again, the words won't come. He continues, sensing that.
"Because thanks to you, I now know there's another, happier world out there. So stand up, dammit. Stand up and fight for it. Go on and brag about how you can smile in your world, and tell us why it should be the one to survive."
You have told him this, back before you knew the truth. You thought he'd like to see it, a world different from this eternal winter where the weak die and that's to be expected. You didn't know. You didn't know, that he'd never be able to--
"Be proud." Patxi glares at you. "Hold your head up high, and fight for your weak little world... Don't you dare go losing to a world like this, a world whose only virtue is strength!"
"But, I..." There are your words. Weak, shaky. But you can't simply say "Sure," can you? This is his world. This is their world. If you do this, if you go through with it--
Seeing the look on your face, he nods with a grim smile. "... Yeah, you'll have a lot of blood on your hands. You won't be able to pretend it never happened. But you've still gotta do it. After all... your world sounds so much more beautiful. So it should be the one to survive."
He takes a breath, chokes a little on the blood bubbling up from his throat. "Me...I don't know anything. Masters, Servants, Proper Human History, Lostbelts... I don't know the first thing about any of it. But, if our world IS wrong... and, if there's any meaning to be found in our lives... lives that are just one hardship after another... I think it's that we were able to learn there's a better place--a world filled with happiness, a world that's right...
We Yaga might've made a mistake and ended up in the wrong place. But I'm sure even that mistake has meaning. Isn't that right?"
He's bleeding so much. Despite that, his grip on your shirt is unyielding. You couldn't break free.
You try anyway, desperately. "That's enough, Patxi. You have to save your strength--"
Patxi huffs, dismissively. "Don't worry. We Yaga barely even feel pain or fear. You... and Mash... must've been way more scared. It must've hurt a lot worse for you. But that's exactly why you've gotta keep on fighting. Why you've gotta be the ones to live."
Silence pervades his words as you stare down at him. Your eyes burn. After a minute of this, he gives you a little shake that still makes your bones ache.
"... Well? Say something, dammit. Let me... hear your answer..."
His words are coming out far laboriously now and you realize... this is it. This is his last request--no, his last demand for you, this person whose world you might destroy. He could have just let you die. But...
Slowly, shakily, you nod. Patxi's eyes soften in response, and he lowers you back to your feet, staggering a bit.
"... Haha... Look at you... You're crying..."
You don't even realize it until he points it out with a low laugh, but he's right. The tears feel hot against your cheeks.
"... Well damn," Patxi mutters. "Turns out... making you cry... isn't as much fun... as I thought..."
He falls to his knees, then to the snow-laden ground before you can run forward to catch him. And he doesn't move again. ]

is a lot. it's a lot for a girl of nineteen, much less one of three less. anna still couldn't bring herself to fault ritsuka on her continued ultimatum of her world or theirs, but...
... but it's more terrible than she'd ever expected, too. getting to know these people. befriending them. only to wipe out whole worlds? families? histories and cultures, loves and losses?
how does it feel, looking someone in the eye and knowing they might be next?
...
anna sits there with the wolf -- with patxi in hand, squeezing the doll tightly as tears stream down her face as they did ritsuka's. once she realizes they're there, though, she wipes at her face with her hands and strangles out a strained reply. ]
You know, [ it's so shaky, ] I'm starting to think you don't play favorites because you can't.
[ a laughable attempt at a tease, but she can't stop shaking and she can't stop crying, because anna's quite the crybaby when she starts. ]
no subject
She doesn't cry, though, kneeling down beside Anna to pull her into a hug. ]
You're not wrong. You're not wrong at all.
no subject
they must hate her. no wonder the air was so weird here -- she thinks back to josuke's words about someone being not who he thought they were and shakes her head. ritsuka must've thought everyone here might hate her, too. but anna can't hate her no more than she can asa. ]
You... need like, a longer vacation.
no subject
[ With a tired smile, resting a hand against the back of Anna's head. This wasn't really ideal. It wasn't like she wanted anyone to have to see that, especially someone who was still living a normal life. Anna had accepted her so simply, just because Ritsuka had said she was doing what she had to, not what she wanted to.
But seeing that must have... ]
... I'm sorry. If I'd known, I would have stopped you. A lot of my memories aren't really... that great, in the past few years.
no subject
I don't wanna be in the dark. [ even if it's easier. ] How old were you? When... all this started?
[ past few years... ]
no subject
[ ... ]
I was eighteen.
no subject
Really coming to terms that Tsukasa-kun and I are like. The normal ones here.
[ she doesn't know about hatsune miku ]
no subject
[ On the heels of a slightly breathless laugh that isn't even humorous. ]
Sorry about that. I wish I could say I was one of you.
no subject
[ which is fine. she hugs ritsuka, cuddling her. ]
But... when you come to visit, you'll be just another girl. It'll be fun walking around Japan again, don't you think?
no subject
But she appreciates the offer more than she could ever say, leaning into the hug with a nod. And-- ]
My favorite color is orange.
no subject
I've been pretty into white lately myself. Orange suits you. It's a color that makes people smile.
no subject
[ Anna, sweetie... ]

[ sanji would end his life. ]
no subject
[ She won't tell Sanji. ]
no subject
The point is, Ritsuka-chan, that unless you really, really want me to stay away from you, then I won't. I can't. I know when Mii-chan says it she doesn't mean it because she's dishonest, but friends stick with friends -- and bust their balls when they need to. So yes, orange suits you just fine.
no subject
Thanks, Anna-chan.
[ Softly, but sincerely. ]
That means a lot.

[ everyone....... in this house seems like they need a Normal Girl to just tell it to them straight. her role is a niche but necessary one, as a side character turned main. they're alike in that. ]
