week two | dates
You worked up your courage and asked someone out on a date! Good job!
Now you have to hope the producers are kind re: where they send you.

[quietly]
Ritsuka. . . isn't it considered cruel to call a clemar a sheep or a goat?
no subject
[ She has no idea what that is. ]

I don't think they're sensitive about their horns, but I don't think they'd appreciate being compared to an animal.

[ Holding out a hand! ]
What's a clemar?
no subject
Lessing is one, isn't he? People with horns.

[ Mysterious. ]

I see. . . [a beat] I'm sorry, then. It's just. . . [a pause] . . . taking some adjusting for me, to learn that everyone here doesn't know anything about the eight tribes.

[ Earnestly. ]

[at the snacks booth he is picking up a few bags of cookies, purchasing them without much fanfare. but this booth seems to be mostly sweets, so. . .! on to find a booth of savory snacks!]
There are eight tribes in euchronia. Nine, technically, but I'll get to that in a bit. All of them can be distinguished based on physical features. The clemar have horns-- they're the most populous and respected tribe. Next are the roussainte, who have pointed ears. They're just as populous as the clemar, and are respected more for their physical prowess than anything else.
[. . .]
The paripus are the third most populous tribe. . . almost as common as the clemar and roussainte. They have animal ears-- dogs, cats, lions. . . and so on. But for some reason, they're looked down upon. Not many people would care to give a paripus the time of the day, let alone stop to help them on the street if they were suffering.
. . . do you understand so far?
no subject
[ A pause. It's clear she's been listening intently. ]
Yep, I think I've got it so far.

The ishkia have wings at their waist and sharp, birdlike features. They aren't as respected as the clemar and roussainte, but they aren't hated, either. A few of them hold positions of power in the government.
The rhoag tribe is the most long-lived tribe out of them all. You can recognize them by the markings on their face. Their numbers are smaller than the clemar, roussainte, and ishkia. . . but I think they have enough respect that they aren't discriminated against like some of the other tribes are.
The eugief. . . they're short, with wings on their arms, large ears and bright, red eyes. [LIKE BATS] People treat them poorly, too. There aren't very many of them, and they tend to live in small villages rather than in large cities.
The mustari are an isolated tribe that mostly live on their own island out in the ocean. They have a third eye on their foreheads-- it's capable of sensing magla. They practice their own religion outside of the government-sanctioned Sanctism, which means people call them "pagans" or "heretics" quite frequently.
The nidia are known for their iridescent eyes and hair. [this is why Josuke pings him as nidia that BEAUTIFUL HAIR] . . . people tend to call them liars and cheats.
[a beat]
. . . those are the eight tribes of Euchronia. But. . . there is a ninth one, whose numbers are so small that some people say the tribe doesn't even exist.
no subject
Is that your tribe? I think I've been following along okay, but I... don't think any of these descriptions really match you.
[ He doesn't have iridescent eyes and hair... or wings... or a third eye or horns or animal ears or markings... ]

[examining a bag of popcorn]
I'm an elda. We don't have any distinguishing physical features. Our numbers are so small that most people don't even think we exist.
[. . .]
And according to the Sanctist church. . . we are a "cursed tribe."
no subject
[ So that sounds like bs. ]
no subject
It's because we're not.
[he KNOWS he is not cursed. please!!]
But considering the sway the Sanctist Church has on public opinion. . . everyone believes them. So the elda are regarded as the most dangerous and sacrilegious tribe of them all. An. . . abomination against god.
[he says all of this so easily, so quietly, but it's clear this view is something he is just. . . used to]
. . . the only elda I know are all living together in a village hidden in the forest. It's the only place they can truly live in peace.
no subject
[ On a sharp exhale, processing. ]
Just what is it about religions sometimes where they think they can just decree something like that? That's so many lives they're ruining!
no subject
[. . .]
[. . . he places the bag back onto the counter and musters up a tired smile]
I wish I had an answer for you. [. . .] Perhaps it's just. . . a way to maintain their control and power over the populace.
[he is Not a Fan (TM) of the Sanctist Church. obviously]
no subject
Probably.
Being king would at least go a long way in changing that. And boy, they'd deserve that.
no subject
As things are now, the head of the church-- Sanctifex Forden-- is in first place.
[which is not. . . surprising]
Sanctism is woven so intricately into daily living that overcoming that lead. . . will be difficult.
