[ why the HELL did they assign him to go to the water park with Lessing?! He should be here with a hot chick! He was all excited, too, until he arrived and saw who he'd been assigned to. Steve's got the long trunks on, same as Lessing, and a large bottle of sunscreen gripped in one hand. The only other notable things are that his weird little choker is still on, and he's got an unusual bowling ball-sized scar right across his midsection, almost perfectly round. ]

Yeah, when I was like, six, [ he mutters. ] Lemme guess, they don't have these where you're from?

[ he squirts out some sunscreen as he speaks and starts slathering it on his shoulders. ]

[ Life isn't always fair, and sometimes karma comes back at a guy in the most tragic of ways when he insults another boy for having horns. At least the hot tub back at the house will allow Steve some hot chicks in swimwear time.

For now he's stuck with sheep boy looking as unsexy as it is possible for him to look while very much being male. Truly, truly the most tragic kind of karma. ]

Not in the country I'm from, but I know things like this exist other places. I've just never been to one.

[ a bit sarcastic. Normally, he'd probably be more enthusiastic, but it's hard to get excited to spend a day with a guy he's only had a singular conversation with. And it was bad. ]

[ It was pretty damn bad. He'll get no arguments from Lessing about that, but he would like to just get through this without more hostility, so he's sighing heavily at the way Steve says that, his ears pressing back. ]

Alright, since you're more familiar than I am, you pick the first ride.

[ man, the ears are weird, too... but he's not looking for a fight, either. Not really. That doesn't stop him from immediately pointing to the tallest slide in the park - one with one of those huge funnels - because (as always) he feels like he needs to prove something. ]

All right, then let's go! Might as well start with the good stuff.

[ Look! They're getting along! Kind of...

They're not actively fighting. It's a win. ]

[ Another reason not to be thrilled with being partnered up with Lessing for something like this is that he's not always THE BEST conversation partner, but at least he's agreeable. Even if he's not talking, there's certainly enough chatter from the people around them as they make their way to the slide. So that's... that's something?

That's not really something when Lessing is making 0% of that noise. ]

[ Some may call this amiable silence. Steve calls it awkward. He's fidgety to begin with; walking around quietly with a guy he doesn't like feels like torture. There's nothing to talk about, but it only takes a minute or two before he becomes determined to find something. ]

So... You've got horns, but you're not a demon like Minami, right? What are you doing here, anyway?

I'm not.

[ Though depending how Steve keeps going with that line of thought, if he keeps going with that line of thought, he could be walking into dangerous territory.

For now Lessing doesn't really feel like talking about his family dynamics with Steve though, so he'll move on to the next part.

At this point he's been honest with enough people that it seems like it would be stupid to be cagey, so he'll just come out with it all. ]

I came for the wish mostly, but I thought if I met someone here it would be nice too. Given so many of us seem to be from different worlds, I don't really know how well it'd work out in the long term though.

Huh... yeah.

[ he hadn't thought about that part. Long-term relationships are hard enough when you're on the same planet. Then again, he's half-expecting to stop existing once the show is over, so he hasn't exactly devoted a lot of thought to anything that happens next. ]

I want the wish, too. All the other stuff's not important.

[ That would be a distracting and sobering thought to have to hold onto. If Lessing's wish doesn't come true he's at least no worse off than he was before, though there's still a slowly ticking timer on how long that's true for. ]

So you don't care about finding a match at all?

[ Other than finding the "perfect" one to keep the wishes from being whisked away from them anyway.

The question is asked without judgment, and Lessing does look genuinely curious. It helps him figure things out if he knows what people are after.

... Or it helps him take this information to someone else who might be able to do a better job of figuring it out at least. ]

[ love's the last thing on his mind - especially considering he's still nursing a broken heart, but he's not about to bring that up. ]

[ Maybe for the best in this case. It's not like Lessing is trying to be hostile or a problem for Steve here, but he can't say he'd be the most understanding.

Largely because he's never had to deal with one, so it'd be a lot of "that's rough, buddy" energy.

He can't say he's really had to deal with what Steve is going through on other fronts either, fortunately for him, but... ]

No, in that case the wish would be my only priority.

[ The wish is his main priority still regardless. ]
