[She's lighting up. It's definitely a good thing their trustworthy animal companions were left home this time.]

Ahhhhh... we only have an hour...! [The horror of the realization sets in. How can they possibly do all of their cat petting in such a short amount of time?]

Okay! Let's herd them into one big fluffy circle and sit down to pet as many as we can!!

[ This will work! She's definitely herded cats before!! ]

[Ritsuka's on a mission...! Kat looks at her with some raw admiration twinkling in her gaze.]

You're really a woman on a mission aren't you, Ritsuka? I've got an idea!

[Kat raches out and grabs her hand, pulling her over to a sunny corner of the Cat Room and plopping down on a cushion on the floor.] If you build it, they will come!

Oooh! Brilliant idea!

[ Pretty sure that's from a movie, so it's got to be right! She'll plop down right beside her.

Look, kitties. They're in the sun. Pspspspsps. ]

[It's the perfect strategy! Unlike trying to run around and herd them all into a circle, they can lure them in with pets and treats.

Kat may not have the accessory that draws all dogs in the area to follow her around like she's the Pied Piper, but animals seem to have a slight fondness for her anyway. The friendliest of the cats are making a beeline for those laps on offer. The meanest of the cats are plotting murder in a corner somewhere.]

Boy... Cats kind of have it made. I could go for a nap in the sunshine, too. [Now that she's here, it's so soft and warm. She gives a big stretch before lounging out.]

With your name and that attitude, does this sort of feel like being among your people?

[ She's all sprawled out like one, a few of the cats following her example, and Ritsuka grins as one of the tuxedo cats curls up in her own lap. ]

Well, Syd did give me this name because people were calling me the "black cat girl" around town. [She likes her new name and thinks it suits her, so Kat's recollection is cheerful.]

And I was kinda a stray, like these guys... [She kind of flops onto her side, letting a big orange cat snoot up between her propped arms.] Hekseville is my new home, but I didn't really have a "people." So, kinda?

So you didn't have a name before that? I mean, good job to Syd [ whoever that is ] because I think it's perfect for you.

... Do you at least have other people around who make you feel more at home?

I'm sure I did! ...At least, I hope I did. [It would be pretty sad, probably, if she lived her entire life up until that point without ever being given a name.} But I like Kat! If I remember, I wonder if I'll want to go back to that name...

After all, I've gotten sort of settled by now. There are a lot of people in Hekseville I want to protect. [So that... sort of answers Ritsuka's question?]

I've had really short-lived amnesia before... but you know, I think if this is who you're comfy with now, whenever your memories come back, the choice of name should be entirely up to you.

[ A firm nod. ]

That'd be nice, wouldn't it...?

[Because she's forgotten everything, there's some worry there that whatever comes back will be completely different, almost like trying to squeeze a completely different person into the life she's built for herself now.]

I didn't know you went through that. What was it like when you got your memory back? How did it feel?

[singurarity]

... Kind of wonky. It was also kind of a crazy situation in general, so I didn't get to reflect on it too long.

[ Which. Might be for the best. ]

Oh. [Kat's face is so expressive that there's really no hiding the sympathetic disappointment that flies through her expression. That's too bad, and she feels bad for Ritsuka (and herself, a little bit, however selfishly that might be) that it felt weird and not reliving or natural.]

It's always like that, isn't it? Never a dull moment... It seems like you're always dealing with something.

It kind of seems like a lot of us are. Anna-chan's almost really refreshing to hear that it's just school she has to deal with.

[ and romance, but. You know. Not world-saving. ]

Right? It makes me wish I'd been able to attend school more than just that one day... the uniforms are so cute!

[It fits Kat's airheadedness to say something like that, but it's obviously not just that, even for someone who doesn't have Ritsuka's level of translation skills.

Kat picks up another cuddle buddy and draws it in to the pile. There's definitely still room to join the heap.] But today, we're just two girls with a couple of furry friends!

We are! Completely normal girls with cats!

[ As she nabs a pair of very squeaky kittens. ]

So we absolutely have to make the most of it.

[Yeah... after all, they only have an hour to pull this one off.]

It's too bad... You know, this wouldn't be a bad place to take a nap.

[Cuddled up in the sun with a bunch of friendly cats (and one evil spicy stalker slinking closer and closer to their group), with Ritsuka who also deserves the break... well, if they had napping on their scavenger hunt cards, this would be the place to do it.]

Which kitty is your favorite? [Two totally normal girls with cats-style questions.]

I like this one--

[ She holds up a slinky black cat who just dangles from her hands with fur so dark and eyes so bright and green that it's just a pair of green eyes in a whole bunch of blackness. The cat looks so unamused, but puts up with it. ]

Isn't he cute??

Oh...he's like a little void! Aren't you scary!

[She sits up a little to get a bit of petting in. A little like Dusty, if Dusty didn't have any stars in his coat and wasn't translucent...]

Is it because of his eyes?

[singurarity]

His eyes and the contrast with his fur! And he's so soft!!

[ And he'll start purring when Kat pets him, too. ]

So soft! [Kat repeats. So, so soft... she's getting in all of the pets she can now.]

Does he remind you of anything special?

[singurarity]

There was a stray cat I used to run into after school... so I think that. It just makes me feel sorta nostalgic.

That's so cute!

[(I wonder if she actually really misses school...)

Kat realizes that she hasn't heard Ritsuka talk much about things like this - the normal kid stuff that they were just finding Ann refreshing for struggling to deal with handling.]

Do you think you'll go back to school? When you're done with everything else?

... I don't know. Honestly, I'm not sure when I'll be done, but I'm already at the age where I should have graduated by now.

[ She does miss those days, though. ]
