week three | dates
You worked up your courage and asked someone out on a date! Good job!
Now you have to hope the producers are kind re: where they send you.
Now you have to hope the producers are kind re: where they send you.
kat & mark
On the other hand, Kat and Mark are being sent to a cooking class!
Just like the previous date, it's very chill, and they're surrounded by other beginners, so nothing to worry about! You'll even get to eat what you make.
Highlights:
- there are definitely some teamwork tasks
- hopefully they come back with at least one new skill!

This is genuinely exciting. Other than getting the chance to spend more time with Kat, who is just — such a breath of fresh air, really, compared to a lot of other people in the house at the moment — Mark's never had the chance to make a cake before. Let alone a layered one, which makes it seem all the more awesome.
First things first: preheat the oven, check. Then it's just a matter of... ]
Shit. Which ingredients do we put in first? Do you remember?
[ The instructor looks like they're checking in with other people first... ]
(points) mark swearing
Baking cake, on the other hand, is a skill that she's mostly left up to others until now. Even if she wanted to learn, there hasn't exactly been the time to do it - and her place, no matter how much she loves living there, is really small and doesn't have anywhere to cook. At least this class has lots of room to experiment. It does mean they're now standing over an intimidating array of bowls of ingredients, staring into the unknown.]
Um... They said... do the wet ingredients first and then the dry ingredients separately before combining them! Butter's dry, right?
not me forgetting he does it more casually than i thought
[ Oh. This... probably should not be as hard as it's already feeling like. Crap. He really hopes they can at least get a cake out of this. ]
Oh! Speaking of, do you know how to crack eggs without getting them everywhere? Or should I try doing the wet ingredients and you do the dry ones?
you've made him a fresh delinquent... we'll see a whole new side of mark
Making a tiny noise in her throat that can only mean she agrees with the butter taxonomy, Kat is instantly repaid by... an attack on her coordination? Wow! Her next gasp is much more flustered, and she brandishes a wooden spoon at him.] Hey! I can crack an egg!
[She's clumsy, but she's not that clumsy!] Besides, if one egg spills it's just one egg... what happens if a cup of flour goes everywhere?

Mark, meanwhile, raises his hands in surrender at the spoon. ]
Ah! No, I just meant, I don't know if I could crack an egg properly... I feel like it would get everywhere if I tried? I mean... so would the flour, I guess, but the flour isn't going to like... explode.
[ His shoulders slump in defeat. Maybe he's screwed either way, but... ]
If you can trust me not to get flour everywhere [ that's possibly a lot of trust right there ] I can take the dry ingredients, and you've got the wet ones?

[Ah... well, she is technically kind of a superhero, so that's not saying much. She pushes the larger of their two mixing bowls and the flower jar into his hands.]
Here you go, Mr. Dry! ... [She cringes.] Wait, no, that was bad.
no subject
Maybe! [ Maybe she could crack an egg in one hand! He's all for her trying; she's so free in a way he absolutely is not. ] Still, you probably have more finesse than I do, right?
[ when it comes to egg cracking, yes.
And he is suddenly receiving the bowl and jar, pressing them up against his body to make sure he doesn't drop them before turning to set them on their station. ]
Mr. Dry... ... that'd make you Ms. Wet, which... also seems bad? [ A beat, a laugh as he starts measuring flour out, seriously trying to not get it everywhere (and partially failing, as flour is wont to do; wearing a dark-coloured shirt is making the evidence impossible to hide). ] Maybe we should stick to our names.
no subject
Well, we could also do code names... I've been Sea Cat before...Black Cat. Um, basically anything cat-related, you name it, I've been called it!
[IS there any actual catchy callsign for a cat that bakes? Probably not. Despite all concerns, Kat does manage to crack the egg without sending it splattering all over the place. She doesn't even drop any eggshells into the bowl. She does, however, use a dry measuring cup for her liquids without thinking twice, pouring out a level measurement of milk that seems...close enough to the top, right?]
Try and get some in the bowl, buddy.
